But the negatives are huge. This happens - not often, but it does happen. You press the FF button, and sometimes it jumps 30 seconds, sometimes 10, sometimes it actually goes BACKWARDS, and then sometimes after pressing the FF button a hundred times and you are approaching the point in the movie where you were - the dang thing forwards all the way to the end. For example, say you are half way through watching a movie and the device accidentally disconnects from the Media Center PC that it is attached to.
Look for something that actually works. And, if you just missed something and want to skip backwards a little bit to replay a part, it will go back to the beginning of the movie sometimes - and now you are in FF hell again.I am extremely disappointed in these devices, as I have come to expect good things from Linksys. Also, if you pause a movie - when you unpause it you get dropped back in to your movie either 1-5 minutes before or after the point where you paused the movie. The setup is OK. The video quality is great. Often times, you press a button and then wait 2-5 seconds (or more sometimes) for the device to respond.2) if you are watching a movie, and for whatever reason you want to skip forward or backward, this device is dreadful at this. When you reconnect this device to the PC and fire up your movie again, it can take you 10 minutes to painfully fast forward to where you were in the movie.
DO NOT buy these MCE's. I bought 2 of these MCE's a year ago. I will list those below:1) the device is very sluggish to respond to the remote. Combine this frustration with the first issue I listed above and you can imagine how this makes you feel.
There's noticable lag on every operation and it had trouble maintaining 1080p on component, so only use HDMI for that.But the worst is how often it disconnects. It's a nightmare, really. It's alright, if you plan to leave it on 24/7. Also, if you power it down, every boot you need to re-associate it with your PC.
The wireless connection would not detect my network, and after it detected the access point (when I took it out of the TV cabinet), it would not authenticate because I was using WPA-Personal with AES (required for my iPod Touch). The codecs that my PC supports are not the same as the ones that the Linksys Media Center Extender support, and I was required to re-encode all of my movies in order to watch them. This product worked great for piping my recorded TV shows from my Vista PC to my television, but I had to use a hard wired connection that produced minimal lag after the initial load. I also ran into issues with the movies that I had converted from DVD format to AVI format.

(Also a pro).[.].-Paul Even having to re-set this gadget up once per month, it's really no big deal considering there are many more annoying things in life than taking 3 minutes of your time to re-set this thing back up.Would I recommend this product. If you need to get a DTV converter, screw that and grab one of these, you will be WAY more satisfied.
I would recommend this product to anyone that doesn't have anger management issues, because you will waste your money and time to write a crappy review about it. If you want to use this wirelessly, either use it close to your router or get a Wireless-N type router (Preferably a Dual-N for best signal) or you could just use it wired.Overall the product does what it says it will do. * Is not capable of advanced wireless network settings such as any wireless channels over 11.; * Disconnects often (.even when connected through Ethernet).;* Requires a hard reset on avg once per month.; * Remote control set up is terrible. just with a few minor hiccups. It does work with my TV though and only allows a few buttons to work with the television: i.e. No sense crying over spilled milk. My job has forced me to be patient with electronics, so I don't mind so much. I only watch HDTV on my PC so I am not aware how well that portion of it works, however the Linksys Media Center Extender is set up to broadcast in HD. I'm giving this a 3 star rating. Volume, Mute and power button.; * Does not play flash file types so no browsing YouTube.Though several have rated this product very low, I gave it 3 stars because even though it is a pain in the a** to deal with sometimes, the convenience of just having one of these far outweighs the cons.
If you are lazy, I do not recommend this to you as it will disturb your couch potato ways.
And the bright light - but I've just read about using black electrical tape - I will do so tonight. Lossless files sent from my PC in my bedroom to the system in the lounge. I primarily use mine for music. A couple of gripes for me but not enough to lose a star; I can't get surround sound through the hdmi cable and as I use coaxial to my DAC, movies or shows can only be enjoyed in stereo. This is a great product for the money. I paid £150 for mine and you can get them for under £100 now. I have the 2100 connected to an external DAC and the sound is sublime.
